The Locarno Competition awarded 75,000 francs
GENEVA (EFE) .— The Indonesian black comedy “Revenge is mine, others pay in cash” received the Golden Leopard yesterday within the 74th. version of the Locarno Competition (Switzerland), which gave the award for finest director to the American Abel Ferrara for “Ceros y unas”.
The Asian movie, which based on the jury “goes back to the action cinema of the 80s and 90s” and “explores the masculine and feminine in a macho world”, is directed by Edwin, one among Indonesia’s most famous filmmakers.
“The award is a celebration for the cinema of Southeast Asia, which I hope continues to show a lot of color, a lot of flavor, but above all speak of the injustices that kill our humanity,” stated the director via a video message, since he couldn’t be current on the ceremony.
Ferrara, who did attend Locarno, highlighted when receiving the award that “cinema keeps us young and free, it is a powerful tool when you use it with good intentions.”
The Chinese language movie “Jiaoma tanghui (An Old and New Show)” by Qiu Jongjiong received the Particular Jury Prize, endowed with 30,000 Swiss francs (about 630,000 Mexican pesos).
The Golden Leopard awards 75,000 francs (about 1,618,000 pesos) to the winner, and one of the best director is endowed with 20,000 francs (about 422,000 pesos).
The prize within the “Filmmakers of the Present” competitors, which is awarded to the primary or second movie by a brand new director, went to “Hermandad”, by Italian Francesco Montagner.
The Spanish “Holy Spirit”, from Elche Chema García Ibarra, received one of many two particular mentions from the jury. The opposite corresponded to the Swiss manufacturing “The soul of a beast”, by Lorenz Merz.
