Ciara tears up when Normani praises her for being a role model

Normani gives flowers to her idols while they are around to enjoy them. The “Wild Side” singer will perform on Thursday The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she shares her admiration for guest presenter Ciara, to whom she attributes that she helped shape her growth as an artist and woman.

The singer tells Ciara that it “meant a lot” to her to showcase Normani’s TV debut of “Wild Side” at this year’s MTV VMAs, as her nearly 20-year career has been so influential in Normani’s growth.

“It really meant a lot to me that you shared this moment, you know? You’re someone I looked up to forever, ”shares the 25-year-old. “I’ve always felt that representation is so important, and as a little girl in my grandmother’s living room, I learned the ‘1, 2 step’ and ‘goodies’. Literally, the earliest memories I have were you a part of it really helped shape the artist and woman I could be. You really opened me up to these possibilities. ”

The confession tears Ciara to pieces and the two share a sweet moment in which the 36-year-old thanks Normani for sharing and they hold hands.

Ciara isn’t the only artist Normani has shown her appreciation for lately. During her big night at the BET Soul Train Awards 2021, the singer ET explained why she always loves to pay homage to musicians who paved the way for their success.

“You gave me the opportunity to be the black girl I am today and the black artist and woman I grew to be,” she told ET. “They represented me from a young age so that when I was four or five years old I could tell my mom and dad, ‘I want to be like Janet [Jackson]. I want to dance like Ciara. I want to be like Beyoncé. ‘ What I see on TV is who I want to be and it really opened up the possibilities of who I could become and to me that means absolutely everything. “

“Like I said [onstage]It has been a difficult journey for Black women like me to be a woman in a male dominated realm in addition to being a Black woman. But you know this is my superpower, “she added.

The singer also told ET that all fans waiting for her debut album should be on their guard as the “summer is lit up”.

“I want to tell you that summer is lit up,” said the singer when asked about her debut. “We’re doing everything! I’m ready to perform, I miss performing.”
