Brooke Shields shared a tearful video on Instagram on Friday after her 19-year-old daughter, Rowan, returned for her sophomore year at Wake Forest University.
“I just had to say goodbye to my daughter again,” she told the camera through some sniffles.
“I thought it would be easier the second time around because she’s already away and she’s been with me all summer, but…,” she pauses to take a deep breath.
“I’m not driving with her, she’s driving with her father,” Shields explained, “but she’s taking my car, which was my bachelor’s current car.” It was so painful, I don’t think I can go through going off campus again.”
After another deep breath, she ended by saying, “If anyone else is going through this, we are all in this together.”
Shields captioned the video, “When it comes to your kid going to college the second time you know it’s not the charm.” “Sophomore year, she’s here. If you need me, I’m crying… ️”
Shields also opened up about her sadness at sending Rowan to school for the first time. Last year, she posted a video of the drive home, showing the road through the front windshield, before turning the camera to reveal her teary-eyed eyes.
“It was by far the saddest drive out of nowhere I’ve ever made,” she wrote at the time. “But my baby is just beginning one of the most important adventures of his life… right now!”
