The Bridgertons are back!
On Boxing Day, the first anniversary of the release of Netflix’s hit period drama, the expected premiere date for season 2 for Bridgerton was revealed: Friday March 25th.
The upcoming 10 episode season, which shifts its main focus to the oldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) as he ventures on his own journey to find a wife, is set to return for more drama, romance and scandal. All under the watchful eye of Lady Whistledown, of course – um, Penelope.
Simone Ashley plays Kate Sharma, Anthony’s love interest, reinterpreted from Julia Quinn’s second book in the series. The Viscount who loved me, and newcomer Charithra Chandran plays Edwina Sharma, Kate’s younger sister.
The premiere announcement, made three months after Netflix posted a sharp first look between Anthony and Kate, also included a special video message from the Bridgerton Pour. The delightful 37-second video shows members of the ensemble being presented with a copy of Lady Whistledown’s gossip. As they read the latest report, they slowly realize that this is not just your normal Lady Whistledown sighting.
“I hope you find this informative,” reads a royal Golda Rosheuvel. “Bridgerton returns on March 25th. “
The varied reactions of the cast are just as entertaining and lovable as the announcement itself. “I actually didn’t know that!” Claudia exclaims Jessie before laughing.
“She always has the gossip,” jokes Bailey. See the special announcement below.
Recently, Nicola Coughlan spoke to ET and gave a fascinating glimpse into the future of season two for The Sound by teasing that “the chemistry” [between Bailey and Ashley] is pretty big, I can tell. “She added that the season has gotten” a lot spicier “.
And earlier this year, Bailey announced that the second season of the family story was going to be “sexier”.
“It’s just getting more exciting and kinky and sexier I think,” the actor told ET at the time, adding: Bridgerton will certainly “push boundaries in every direction”. But what he knows for sure is that “the story is going to be really exciting”.
“After Anthony reads the second book and meets someone half as brilliant as Kate Sheffield, he’ll be a very happy man,” suggested Bailey.
Bridgerton returns to Netflix on Friday March 25th.
