'Bachelorette' alum Michael Elio explains the origins of his friendship with Amanda Kloots

The pair shared dinner together late last year.

Michael Elio is opening up about his friendship with Amanda Kloots. on the latest episode of audacity Talking with Bachelor Nation Podcast, Elio reveals how he and Kloots became acquainted and shared the cornerstone of their friendship.

“Amanda is from Akron, [Ohio]Area, so he and I are from here,” Allio shared. “His story is also very sad. She lost her husband to COVID. She has a young child named Elvis. She lives in LA. I’m still here in Akron.”

Bachelor Nation got to know Elio when he competed on Katie Thurston’s season The Bachelorette, During the show, Elio revealed that he was a widower who had lost his wife to breast cancer. He and his late wife have a son, 5-year-old James.

As for Kloots, she lost her husband, Nick Cordero in July 2020 after a protracted fight COVID-19, Kloots and Cordero also have a son, 2-year-old Elvis.

Kloots messaged Allio online after sending himself home The BacheloretteIn favor of his son returning home.

“Once I was out of the show she kind of reached out and we started talking and developing this friendship,” he explained. “The way we look at life, hopeful, but with some respect for the tragedy that we have had to go through, had a lot in common. It just happened to be this great friendship.”

The pair interacted with fans when Kloots shared a photo of themselves and Elio having a meal together in December 2021. “Finally met this guy in person after being Instagram friends for a year!!” Kloots captioned the shot. “Lots of fried food, drinks, great chat and laughs!”

“When she came back to Akron for Christmas, I was like, ‘Let’s have a drink,'” Elio recalled. “I get to meet her parents, meet Elvis. They’re a wonderful, wonderful family. I think she’ll be a lifelong friend. She’s the salt of the earth.”

As far as his dating life is concerned, it is less easy than his friendship with Klots.

“I think I’ve developed trust issues. I’ve never had them in my entire life, and for the first time, I’m worried about who I’m talking to, why they want to talk to me ,” Elio explained. “It’s so far ahead of the show for all the right reasons. I feel like it’s spilling over into my personal life. I’ve been safer than ever.”

Because of his now-protected nature, Elio said it took him “longer than I thought”. [it would] to jump back” into the dating world.

“I’ve been on three first dates… all have been really cordial, great, but sometimes when it gets all about the show, the conversation, and when it gets about the social media So it’s almost like, yes, I understand there are questions and I entertain them, but I’m trying to get to know you too,” he said. “Whenever I’m dating someone I usually love to ask questions because I’m trying to figure out who they are as a person, not just what the show is about. “
