MÁLAGA (EFE) .— Antonio Banderas, who gives a great demonstration of his vocal power in the musical “Company” which he directs and stars and which premiered last night in Malaga, affirms that he has sung “always” , but never wanted to “have a solo singing career”.
“I’ve always determined it to be dramatic, like in ‘Evita’, in ‘Nine’ on Broadway for a year, in ‘The Court of the Pharaoh’ or in duets with friends,” said Banderas as he passed the premiere Carpet installed in the Soho Theater.
This public reunion is special after the pandemic, although he remembers keeping Soho “open all along, always with restrictions that sometimes made shows difficult to support, and money is lost on almost all of them went”.
“But this project is not about making money either, but about excellence, which is not always a guarantee of success. That is the greatness and misery of our profession, that one person on a brick with a lightbulb can be a success and an assembly with forty people on the stage, ”he says.
He is convinced that “Company” is “a very serious work of a very complex work by Stephen Sondheim” that “opens the door to a musical that is much more theatrical and thoughtful than other types of musicals that are being played in Spain last fifteen years ”.
“This is something different, a fun musical that will make people laugh a lot, and there will be some tears out there too because it is inspiring and reflective,” he concludes.
