America’s Got TalentSeason 17 returned on Tuesday for the third night of auditions, and an act came out in a big way. The all-female dance crew The Mayyas took to the stage and pulled off one of the most mesmerizing acts in recent memory.
The group, which was created in Lebanon by choreographer Nadeem Cherfan, spoke AGT cameras before performing, and they explained why they came to America to try to fulfill their dreams on the hit show.
“Lebanon is not supposed to be a place where you can make a career out of dancing, so it’s really tough, and tough for women,” Nadeem explained in a pre-taped package.
He also explained that he “grew up watching”. America’s Got Talent“And that he was particularly inspired by Nightbird – the late songwriter and former AGT Golden Buzzer recipient who was battling late-stage cancer when she auditioned for the show in 2021.
“She said, ‘We can’t wait until life’s hard before you decide to be happy,'” Nadim continued, recalling Nightbird’s emotional audition. “Looking at the illusions America’s Got Talent It’s the most beautiful feeling I’ve ever felt.”
As the dancers hit the stage, he explained that his group’s name meant “Lioness’s Pride Walk” and recalled his reasons for auditioning.
“Lebanon is a very beautiful country. But we live a daily struggle,” shared one dancer. “Unfortunately, being a dancer as an Arab woman… is not yet fully supported.”
After promising that their dance would “hypnotize” the judges, the cast delivered a jaw-dropping performance of synchronized movement, impeccable dance and true, undeniable star quality.
“No words to explain to you what we were feeling here,” Sofia Vergara wondered after the audition. “It was the most beautiful, creative dance I’ve ever seen.”
Howie Mandel confirmed that the dancers were right and that the judges were “hypnotized by what you did.”
Heidi Klum shared, “I want to thank you for giving me a little glimpse of our culture, which is so beautiful.” “It was just amazing, and I love you all. I really do.”
Simon Cowell was stunned by the number and explained, “It will really, really make a difference in a lot of positive ways.”
“And then it was arguably the best dance act we’d ever seen,” he said. “And we are honored to have you here.”
“It’s time for us to vote, but I want to say something first,” Sophia began, before any judges have a chance to vote on the group officially moving forward. “I would feel so honored to be more empowered in this journey because you deserve it. And I want to be a part of it!”
Vergara with a broad smile on his face, then slammed the golden buzzer and showered the Mayans in shimmering metal confetti and they erupted in joy. The group will now proceed to the live rounds in Hollywood to compete against other acts that make it through Judge Cuts.
Meanwhile, the audition continues when America’s Got Talent Returns to NBC next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
