American Idol Contestant Kennedy Anderson has made a shocking exit from the reality singing competition. The 18-year-old singer took to Instagram on Monday to announce her decision.
Without going into precise details, Anderson wrote: “For personal reasons, I am unable to continue American Idol, It’s been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, but I know it’s necessary.”
“I am very grateful American IdolJudges, producers, amazing contestants and all the fans who have supported me,” she continued.
On Tuesday, a representative of Fremantle, who develops image, shared a statement to ET regarding Anderson’s exit. “We are disappointed to see Kennedy leave, but we are excited to witness this festive 20th season, with incredible talent competing to be the next American Idol,” the statement said.
Anderson’s announcement comes weeks later image Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were the first to be blown away by their talent. Anderson charmed the trio with her second audition, with Perry jokingly sharing that she felt threatened by the teen.
“I feel threatened,” quipped Perry. “They’re tiny, they’re skinny, they’re beautiful. They sing really well!”
As for Brian, he added that Anderson “might be the biggest star we’ve ever seen.”
Anderson documents the many joyous moments of his journey American Idol on Instagram, including sharing the experience of performing one of his original songs for the judges.
“I found my original ‘This Way’ song American Idol And it was great!!!” She captioned a photo of herself singing passionately and playing the piano. “Thanks for the love everyone.”
Anderson’s first image audition, in which she sang a cover of Lady Gaga’s “Applause,” which previously trended at number one on YouTube, in early March.
