Semi-finals on Monday Dance with the stars ended with an appearance by Amanda Kloots and Alan Bersten, which moved everyone to tears. The couple performed a redemption tango earlier in the episode, but it was their moving contemporary dance played to the song “Live Your Life” by Amanda’s late husband Nick Cordero that earned them a perfect score and a moment that will go under DWTS Story.

Amanda’s husband, Broadway performer Nick Cordero, lost his 95-day battle against COVID-19 last July. He was survived by Amanda and her now 2 year old son Elvis. During his long struggle, Amanda and Nick’s fans and supporters played “Live Your Life” at the same time every night to show their support and continue wishing him well in his recovery. So when it was time to dance to the song DWTS, Amanda knew the moment had to be special.

ET Special Correspondent Olivia Jade, who was previously a contestant herself this season, spoke to Amanda and Alan after being rescued from the bottom two positions by the judges after the emotional performance.

“It all felt so magical and it was honest to dance, it was like Carrie Ann [Inaba] said we transcended, “Alan told ET.” I know Amanda is 100 percent transcended, but it was beautiful and I’m so grateful for it. ”

Amanda was grateful for her partner’s willingness to internalize her heartbreaking story and turn it into moving choreography.

“I have to give him important props though because he sat down and listened to my whole story and then really took a moment in the room to remember that story and remember special things that I gave him and what happened that only I know about and “That means a lot to me,” said Amanda. “We put them into the choreography and the dance so it felt like I was telling a story instead of just telling it to dance a dance to Nick’s song. And that meant the world to me, it really did. “

Alan added that due to the personal nature of the performance, there was great pressure to perform this week.

“It was tough because I wanted to meet Amanda, I wanted to meet Nick, and there was a lot of pressure because it’s such a special moment,” he said.

As for the bottom two, it didn’t affect the couple.

“Doesn’t matter,” said Alan.

“There’s so much going on Olivia, especially this last dance, you know, all this emotion and then this emotion of being scared of being among the last two and not wanting me to go home,” added Amanda added. “It’s close to the finals so we’re so happy to be here. Thanks for voting for us, oh my god we’re happy to be here.”

Before the season even started, ET’s Amanda Lauren Zima told Zima that she was planning on dancing to Nick’s song.

“I want to dance to Nick’s song,” she told ET in September. “I want this moment. I know he’ll be on the dance floor with me every time … I know it’s going to be tough, but in a weird way I’m really looking forward to that moment when I get to dance to his music. “

the Dance with the stars The finals will take place on Monday, November 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
