festival makers speak

The Argentine director Patricio Orozco, the creator of the festival, assured that, 11 years ago, when the first editions of these meetings were held, the aim was to turn it into a popular festival. “Reveal Shakespeare and bring it closer to young people. I tried to encourage them to travel to the wonderful world proposed by this author.”

In keeping with that early spirit, a decade later, “this special edition featured young actors who were 12 or 14 years old when the festival began, in 2011, now produced by a new generation of young Shakespeare.” , with the plays directed and performed,” says Orozco.

This year, the world of Shakespeare’s plays presented, as one of the central themes, approaches a difficult and painful problem: suicide among young people.

“Shakespeare’s treatment of suicide varied. In Romeo and Juliet We probably find suicide the most romantic. Antonio and Cleopatra, adult Romeo and Juliet, are separated not by two families but by a struggle between two kingdoms and duty and pleasure,” Orozco says.

But perhaps which disputes more. brings she is Ophelia, in small village: Does he go overboard as Gertrudis describes or does he have a suicidal urge?

Orozco reviews other characters of the English writer who went through the tragedy of suicide, such as Lady Macbeth, Othello, Timon of Athens, Cassius, Brutus and Goneril.

“There are different ways of grouping them: those who die on or off stage, those who inspire it out of respect, those who do it out of love and others who do it out of lack of love or remorse,” director it is said.
