Elsewhere in the episode, Owen reflects on his 9/11 experience, TK and Carlos make decisions about their future, and Tommy and Julius make decisions about their future.
Showrunner Tim Minear previewed the action-packed hour with ET, sharing the thought process for refocusing some of the 9/11 finale and Owen’s experiences on that harrowing day.
“I knew I wanted to say something about that and I wanted to do some kind of 9/11-themed episode. When it concluded, what I didn’t want to do was have a very special episode that didn’t. It was a season one finale. I wanted it to involve all the characters and I wanted to hit some key points that I wanted to hit,” Minear explained. “When I saw the story of the tragedy of the condo building that collapsed in Miami last year, it occurred to me that if Owen and team responded with something that evokes the emotions and images of 9/11, So it would be a way of trying not to. To go back and turn the tragedy of 9/11 into an action set piece for an episode of my pop TV show — that maybe this character through and through the situation. would be a way to say something more respectfully than.”
“I already introduced some elements lone Star, I’m particularly thinking about the time TK was experiencing its near-death experience at the start of the year. Those comas dream that he was with his mom and Carlos, even in his bed, started bleeding.” Plus, it was a sneak peek of me playing Owen during 9/11. The way was to make everyone look like they did in 2001 without spending a lot of money on technology.”
season 3 finale 9-1-1: Lonely Star Airs Monday, May 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
