A Mother’s Innocent Misinterpretation
Taylor Swift and her mother, Andrea, share a famously close bond, but even they have moments of comedic misunderstanding. During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Morning Mash Up,” the pop superstar shared a funny anecdote about her mom’s take on the song “Wood” from her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
Lost in Translation
According to Swift, her mother is delightfully unaware of the song’s risqué subject matter. “I think that she thinks that that song is about superstitions, popular superstitions, which, which it absolutely is,” Swift shared, tongue-in-cheek.
The reality, however, is far from it. The song is widely interpreted as an ode to her fiancé, football star Travis Kelce, and is filled with suggestive lyrics. Phrases like “Redwood tree” and references to “new heights of manhood” have not gone unnoticed by fans. The latter is a clear nod to “New Heights,” the podcast Travis co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce—the same podcast where Swift announced her new album.

The Joy of the Double Entendre
Swift seems to be enjoying her mother’s innocent interpretation. She explained that the song’s clever wordplay allows listeners to see what they want to see. “That’s the joy of the double entendre,” Swift said. “That song, you could read that song for people and it just goes right over their head… you see in that song what you want to see in that song.”
For now, it seems the true meaning behind “Wood” will remain a little inside joke between Swift and her millions of fans, while her mom appreciates it for its… historical value.
