A Frightening Night in Rosemont
Early Sunday morning, Rosemont Public Safety confirmed they responded to an ambulance call at the DoubleTree hotel on River Road, transporting an individual to a nearby hospital. That individual was later identified as the 50-year-old actress, known for her iconic roles in the American Pie and Sharknado film series.
According to a report from TMZ, which obtained video of the incident, Reid was seen on a stretcher. The actress told the publication that she had left her drink unattended at the bar to smoke a cigarette. Upon returning, she found a napkin placed over the top of her glass, which she had not put there. After consuming the beverage, her next memory was waking up in the hospital.
Allegations of Drink Tampering
While representatives for Reid did not respond to all media requests, a statement provided to People magazine shed more light on the situation. The rep stated that Reid believes her drink was “tampered with” and that she “has filed a police report.”
However, police in Rosemont told NBC Chicago that as of Monday, no such report had been filed and their initial call did not include allegations of drink tampering.
Despite the conflicting information, Reid’s representative emphasized her cooperation with the ongoing investigation. “Tara is recovering and asks for privacy during this traumatic time,” the statement continued. “She also urges everyone to be careful, watch your drinks and never leave them unattended, as this can happen to anyone.”
Appearance at Chicago Event
Reid had been in the Chicago area to attend the Chicago Sports Spectacular, a popular fan convention. Organizers of the event confirmed that the actress “did appear at our show on Sunday” and participated in photo opportunities with fans before the incident later that evening.
