Cardi B Exposes Heartbreak Before Offset Split
In a candid new interview, Cardi B is pulling back the curtain on the immense emotional turmoil she experienced before filing for divorce from rapper Offset. The star confessed she felt the connection in her marriage fading away, creating a painful void even as she was expecting their third child.
“The Love Was Dying”
“I also felt like my marriage, I felt the love dying from my end — from my end, from his end,” Cardi, 32, shared on a recent episode of the “On Purpose” podcast with Jay Shetty. “I was very lonely because I chose to be lonely.”
The Grammy winner, who filed for divorce in July 2024, recalled the difficult thoughts that plagued her during her pregnancy with their daughter, Blossom. “While it was dying, I had a human growing in me, and I just kept thinking, ‘What’s life going to be without this person?’… It will get you depressed. It will have you lost. But I overcame that.”
Leaning on Shakira for Support
During this challenging period, Cardi B found an unexpected confidant in Shakira while they collaborated on the song “Puntería.” Having gone through her own high-profile split from Gerard Piqué, Shakira offered the words of encouragement Cardi desperately needed.
“I was like, ‘How the f*** did you overcome this?’” Cardi recalled asking. “And she’s like, ‘It’s going to happen.’ And [I’m like], it will never happen. And it happened… I’m here, and I’m the strongest I’ve been. But it was hard.”
A New Beginning
Now, Cardi is in a new relationship with NFL player Stefon Diggs and is pregnant with their first child together. She explained that true healing took time, noting, “It took months for the heart to say, ‘You’re done,’ instead of my mouth and my brain.”
