Planning of drip irrigation system

Agriculture Feb 18, 2022

The following points need to be considered before starting drip irrigation in the field.

(1) Normal preparation:

  • Measure the exact area of how much area to cover under drip irrigation.
  • Be aware of the type of cropping pattern.
  • Know the quality and age of the crop to be adopted drip system.
  • Accurately measure the circumference of the plant.
  • Measuring the distance between to plant.
  • Calculate the number of plants in a row and the total number of rows so that the total number  of plants is found.
  • Accurately analyze the water sample to know the water quality.
  • Gaining information about the slope of the land.
  • Analyze soil sample so that declining elements can be added by fertilization.
  • Indicate whether  water is  to be taken from river, well, canal or borewell.
  • Accurately measure the distance of the crop from the source of water in the map.
  • Measure the depth of the well  if water is to be taken from the well.
  • Planning according to how long the pump  runs in the summer.
  • Find out how much surface water is in the well in summer and how much is the daily discharge.
  • Obtaining information about pump discharge, horsepower, capacity and pump maker as well as total head.
  • Note the size of the delivery head and suction head as well as the pipe.
  • Consider whether the pump model is monoblock, coupled, submersible or jet.
  • PVC in the field. If there is a pipeline, show its length, size and pressure in the map.

Agricultural planning:

  • What type of soil is there as well as the amount of sand, silt and clay should be taken into  consideration, as well as  the amount of slope.
  • To know the ability of soil to  retainand suck water.
  • Know the depth of plant roots.
  • The amount of water to be given too the plant depends on the characterstics of the soil. It is therefore imporant to known the characterstics of the soil.

Planning of irrigation:

  • Obsreving daily water evaporation.
  • Find out how much moisture is in the soil.
  • Determining the daily water requirement of the plant.
  • To know how much transpiration occurs from the leaves of the plant.
  • Plant driught resistance means that plants need to know how long they can survive without water.
  • One should know the rainfall characteristics of the area.
  • It is imporatant to calculate how much water is needed.
  • It is imporatant to know how mmuch water to irrigate asa well as how much irrigation  is required.
  • Determining the interval between the two irrigations.
  • Depending on the type of soil, it is important to know the method of water infiltration in heavy, medium or light soils and the area of origin.
