Mick Foley announces his mother’s passing

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley revealed on Monday that his mother has died after a long struggle with dementia. In a heartfelt tribute posted to his official Facebook account, Foley wrote “GOODBYE MOM” and reflected on her life, strength and influence.

A life of perseverance and pride

Foley described his mother as “a strong, fiercely independent woman” who beat polio as a child and became the first member of her family to attend college. She later worked as a physical education teacher on Long Island, where she met Foley’s father. Foley said she grew up in the shadow of the Great Depression and learned to stretch a dollar — a trait he playfully credited for his own thriftiness.

“GOODBYE MOM. It is with a heavy heart I report the passing of my mother, following a lengthy battle with dementia… I will always be proud to be Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy.”

How ‘Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy’ became part of his story

Foley noted that the nickname “Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy,” popularized by commentator Jim Ross in the late 1990s, became part of his wrestling persona and endeared him to fans. He credited his mother’s love of reading and learning for helping him become a bestselling author, beginning with his 1999 memoir Have a Nice Day!

Foley shared fond family memories — from neighborhood wiffleball teams to his mother’s celebrated holiday Yorkshire pudding — and said his mother cherished seeing his name on a book cover after his first memoir was released.

Facing dementia and saying goodbye

In the post, Foley described the pain of watching a loved one suffer from dementia while also acknowledging the small, meaningful moments that still appear. He wrote about saying a final goodbye with his children present and asked fans to appreciate the little things, tell their loved ones they are cherished and not take moments for granted.

Foley closed his tribute by expressing hope for medical progress: he prayed for the day dementia can be cured and encouraged readers to treasure their families. “Goodbye Mom. I love you very much and will always be proud to be Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy,” he wrote.
