Bodycam footage released in Miami shooting case
Police body-worn camera video released as part of discovery shows Antonio Brown, 37, handcuffed inside a Miami Police cruiser following a May 16 incident after a celebrity boxing event. In the footage Brown can be heard telling officers, “I did nothing, brother,” asking to call his mother, and pointing out cuts to his knee.
What police say happened
According to an arrest affidavit, Brown grabbed a handgun from a security staffer and fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu after getting into a fistfight earlier at the event. Nantambu told investigators one of the bullets grazed his neck. Brown was not immediately arrested the night of the incident; authorities say Nantambu filed a full statement and identified Brown as the shooter on May 21.
Brown’s defense and legal motion
Brown has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree attempted murder charge that carries up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted. His legal team has filed a motion to dismiss the charge under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law.
The motion says Nantambu had previously attacked Brown backstage at the 2023 Rolling Loud festival, was jailed in Dubai in 2022 for allegedly stealing Brown’s jewelry, and had publicly threatened Brown. It alleges Nantambu waited outside the boxing event and aggressively approached Brown as he left, prompting Brown to retrieve a permitted concealed firearm.
Defense lawyers say Brown fired two warning shots intentionally aimed away from Nantambu to deter further aggression and allow Brown to get to his vehicle. The filing also claims Nantambu seized Brown’s gun and fled, while Brown remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Prosecution account and case status
Prosecutors maintain Brown’s actions amounted to attempted murder. The case remains active as both sides prepare evidence and legal arguments in advance of upcoming hearings. Brown continues to maintain on social media that he acted in self-defense and that others tried to take his jewelry.
