Renewal confirmed

Paramount+ has officially renewed Dexter: Resurrection for a second season, extending the franchise that picked up after Dexter: New Blood. The announcement confirms the streamer’s commitment to continuing Dexter Morgan’s story following the first season, which concluded in September 2025.

Showrunners and star response

Veteran showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips will return to lead Season 2. Series star Michael C. Hall shared a short, cryptic video on YouTube to break the news to fans, saying: “Details will be forthcoming but I wanted to be the first to let you know that the story continues.”

Where Season 1 left off

Dexter: Resurrection follows Dexter Morgan after the events of Dexter: New Blood. In Season 1, Dexter survives a gunshot wound and travels to New York where his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), has been living — and killing — in his own way. That storyline sets the stage for fresh tensions and moral complications in the upcoming season.

Key cast and returning faces

The first season featured a high-profile ensemble: Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, Krysten Ritter, David Dastmalchian and Neil Patrick Harris. Fan favorites David Zayas returned as Miami PD officer Angel Batista, and Desmond Harrington appeared as Lieutenant Quinn. Jack Alcott plays Harrison, whose arc remains central to Dexter’s continued story.

Behind the scenes and wider franchise moves

The renewal comes as Paramount+ reverses course on another Dexter project: the streamer will not move forward with a second season of the prequel Dexter: Original Sin, despite having previously announced a renewal in August. The decision streamlines the franchise’s focus onto Dexter: Resurrection.

What’s next

Paramount+ has not yet announced a production schedule or release window for Season 2. Creators say more details will be shared in coming months. For now, fans can rewatch Season 1 and Michael C. Hall’s announcement to parse clues about the direction of Dexter and Harrison’s evolving story.
