Boxing Day surprise: The Red Road returns

In a surprise Boxing Day update, both seasons of Jason Momoa’s early drama The Red Road reappeared on Netflix in the US and several international territories. The SundanceTV (now AMC) thriller — which originally aired in 2014–2015 — has all 12 episodes available again on the streamer.

Limited streaming window

Sources indicate the show is back under an expanded AMC-Netflix licensing arrangement made this year. Unlike some AMC titles licensed for roughly a year, The Red Road appears to be available for about six months. If that holds true, the series could leave Netflix as early as June 26, 2026, unless the license is extended.

Note: viewers on Netflix’s ad-supported tier won’t be able to play this title, as several AMC shows remain blocked from the ad tier.

What The Red Road is about

Before Jason Momoa rose to global fame in Game of Thrones, Aquaman and Dune, he starred as Phillip Kopus in this tense, small-town drama set in Walpole, New Jersey. The story centers on the clash between a local community and the neighboring Ramapough Lenape tribe after a tragic cover-up forces unlikely alliances and escalating conflict.

Official synopsis: “A hard-hitting drama that revolves around a sheriff struggling to keep his family together while simultaneously policing two clashing communities: the small town where he grew up and the neighboring Ramapough Mountains, home of the Ramapough Lenape Nation. After a terrible tragedy and cover-up occurs involving the sheriff’s wife, an unholy alliance is forged between the sheriff and a dangerous member of the tribe that will come back to haunt all involved.”
