First look teases Tommy Shelby’s return
Netflix released a 70-second teaser on Christmas Eve for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, offering the first glimpse of Cillian Murphy back as Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby. The short clip frames Shelby as a conflicted figure: a voice asks, “Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby? The famous gypsy gangster,” and Shelby replies, “I’m not that man any more.”
Key scenes in the teaser
The teaser shows Murphy’s Tommy walking with his head down, still wearing his signature bakerboy cap, and includes a female voice urging: “Tommy, you’ve got to come back.” Viewers also see a brief shot of Barry Keoghan’s new character in a white vest top with tattoos on his arms, signalling the film’s blend of familiar faces and fresh threats.
Cast, crew and release dates
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is directed by Tom Harper and written by series creator Steven Knight. The film reunites Cillian Murphy with several returning cast members, including Sophie Rundle (Ada Shelby), Stephen Graham (Hayden Stagg) and Packy Lee (Johnny Dogs).
New additions announced for the feature include Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth. The movie premieres in cinemas on 6 March and will be available to stream on Netflix from 20 March.
Where this fits in the Peaky universe
The film continues the story of the Shelby family after the six seasons of the BBC drama, which charted the family’s rise from the aftermath of the first world war through the end of US prohibition. The sixth series aired in 2022 and was billed as the show’s final run.
Alongside the film, creator Steven Knight and the BBC have announced further expansions of the Peaky Blinders universe. A spin-off series set in 1953 will follow a new generation of Shelbys and will be filmed at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham. Murphy is set to return as an executive producer on the spin-off, though his on-screen involvement has not been confirmed.
Why fans are watching
Peaky Blinders earned a global audience after moving from BBC Two to BBC One and then to Netflix, launching Cillian Murphy to international stardom alongside co-stars such as Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy. The new film aims to bridge the gap between the series and the planned spin-offs while offering a cinematic-scale chapter in Tommy Shelby’s story.
With a tight teaser and a high-profile cast, anticipation for The Immortal Man is high. Fans will get a full picture when the film opens in cinemas on 6 March and when Netflix adds it to its roster on 20 March.
