Joshua KO draws massive Netflix audience

Netflix said Tuesday that Anthony Joshua’s sixth-round knockout of Jake Paul drew an average-minute audience of 33 million viewers worldwide. The fight, held at Miami’s Kaseya Center, delivered one of the platform’s biggest live-sports audiences of the year.

Global reach and rankings

According to Netflix, the event ranked as the streaming service’s No. 1 program in 45 countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Germany, Australia, Mexico and Argentina. Everpass, a commercial-streaming tracker, estimated an additional 600,000 viewers watched at bars, gyms and other public venues.

Where this sits among Netflix sports events

The Paul–Joshua bout was Netflix’s second major boxing event this year after Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford, which drew a 41.5 million average-minute audience in September. Netflix also reported that Jake Paul’s November 2024 exhibition with Mike Tyson peaked at 108 million viewers, marking the platform’s most-streamed sporting moment to date.

Fight outcome and aftermath

Joshua, a former Olympic gold medalist and two-time heavyweight world champion, scored a sixth-round knockout of Paul. The stoppage came on a right-hand blow that left Paul with a broken jaw. Paul, who entered the fight 12-2 (7 KOs) and was a clear underdog, underwent surgery and has since posted updates on social media indicating he plans to return to the ring.

Promotion and local impact

The event was co-promoted by Paul’s Most Valuable Productions and EverWonder. Promoters said the fight produced the highest-grossing boxing gate in Kaseya Center history. The bout’s financial and streaming success underscores the growing appetite for high-profile crossover and celebrity-driven boxing events.

What’s next

Paul has publicly vowed to return to the ring despite the injury. For Netflix, the event continued the streamer’s push into premium live sports content — a strategy that has so far produced several high-viewership events and raised questions about the long-term role of streaming services in global sports distribution.
