As Dylan Efron prepares for the Dancing With the Stars finale, he’s opening up about the toll the competition has taken on his personal life. In a recent interview on Nick Viall’s podcast, The Viall Files, Efron admitted the rigorous demands of the show have tested his relationship with his high school sweetheart, Courtney King.
“I would be lying if I said that appearing on Dancing With The Stars wasn’t tough,” Efron confided, adding, “but I think it’s tougher on Courtney than me.”
The Pressure of the Dance Floor
Efron explained that the show’s demanding schedule is at the heart of the issue. With five hours of daily practice, he often feels mentally and physically drained. “My brain’s mush, my body hurts,” he shared, noting that he had to temporarily move closer to the studio, away from the home he shares with King in Manhattan Beach.
This separation, combined with the pressures of the competition, created a “trying” period for the couple. However, Efron emphasized that King, who maintains a private life away from social media and cameras, has been incredibly supportive.
A High School Romance Standing Strong
Despite the recent challenges, Efron assured listeners that his bond with King is unshakable. The two met in high school and have been together for years, navigating his increasing fame long before his DWTS journey.
“She knows I love her, 100%,” Efron stated. “We know it’s all temporary, so that’s why I don’t think anything’s really changed. I know it’s hard for us right now, but we’re still where we are. We still love each other and, yeah, we’re in a great place.”
He also shared that a positive change has been their ability to travel together more, allowing him to incorporate her into the public-facing side of his life. “I think incorporating her more into that has helped our relationship a lot,” he added.
As for their future? Efron hinted that an engagement might be on the horizon. When asked about a proposal, he said, “Well, she knows the answer. We’re working on it.” It seems that even the bright lights of Hollywood can’t dim this long-lasting love story.
