Cynthia Erivo brought the magic of Oz to the red carpet, dazzling attendees at the New York City premiere of Wicked: For Good on Monday night. The actress, who stars as Elphaba, continued her acclaimed “method dressing” streak with a show-stopping ensemble that paid direct homage to her iconic character.

A Spellbinding Balenciaga Creation

For the premiere at Lincoln Center, Erivo donned a custom Balenciaga gown that was both elegant and dramatic. The black dress featured a striking feather-trimmed turtleneck cape that flowed into a pleated drop-waist skirt with a sweeping train. She completed the powerful look with oversized butterfly sunglasses and sparkling diamond jewelry, perfectly capturing the essence of the misunderstood witch.

Her stylist, Jason Bolden, celebrated the look on Instagram, captioning a photo of the star, “She’s a Real Witch in Custom @balenciaga.”

A United Front on the Red Carpet

While Erivo made a major fashion statement, her voice was unfortunately taking a rest. A few hours before the event, Universal Pictures announced that both Erivo and her co-star, Ariana Grande (who plays Glinda), would be skipping interviews. The studio confirmed that Erivo had lost her voice earlier in the day.

Despite the setback, the on-screen duo walked the red carpet together, posing for photographers and showcasing the powerful bond they’ve developed during filming. Their joint appearance highlighted their unwavering support for one another, a theme that mirrors their characters’ complex friendship in the film.

The Final Chapter: Wicked Part 2

Wicked: For Good is the second and final installment of the blockbuster film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical. The story picks up after the events of Wicked: Part One, where Elphaba has been wrongfully branded the “Wicked Witch of the West” by the Wizard of Oz.

The film series, directed by Jon M. Chu, promises to bring a spectacular conclusion to the origin story of Elphaba and Glinda. The movie also stars Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, and Ethan Slater.

Wicked: For Good is set to fly into theaters on November 21, 2025.
