San Francisco Ignites the Season with a “Winter of Music”
San Francisco is transforming its typically quiet winter months into a must-attend musical destination. Mayor Daniel Lurie has officially declared the city’s “Winter of Music,” a new initiative designed to draw locals and tourists alike with a blockbuster lineup of electronic music concerts. The move aims to replicate the incredible economic success of the city’s summer concert series.
“More music is coming to San Francisco,” Lurie announced in an Instagram post. “These concerts are unlocking venues that are normally quiet during December, drawing out locals and visitors to enjoy great music. Let’s go, San Francisco.”
Blockbuster Headliners at Pier 80
The centerpiece of the winter series will take place at Pier 80, the massive 200,000-square-foot industrial space on the city’s southeast waterfront. The venue is set to host two monumental year-end shows presented by Goldenvoice, the renowned producers behind Coachella, and NPU Live.
On December 30th, Grammy-winning producer Skrillex will team up with experimental artist Four Tet for a special “open-to-close” performance, promising an extended and immersive journey through their iconic sounds.
An Unforgettable New Year’s Eve
The following night, the legendary trio Swedish House Mafia will headline a massive New Year’s Eve celebration. In a move creating immense buzz, this will be their only confirmed U.S. performance before 2026. Fans of anthems like “Don’t You Worry Child” and “Save the World” won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to see Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso live.
Revitalizing the City’s Culture and Economy
This new series builds on the momentum from a successful summer of music, which saw acts like Dead & Company and major festivals like Outside Lands inject over $150 million into San Francisco’s economy. City leaders are banking on this formula to stimulate economic activity during a traditionally slower period.
The initiative also includes a major electronic dance event at the Moscone Center, headlined by Australian DJ Fisher on December 19-20. The back-to-back events at Pier 80 are set to solidify the venue’s reputation as a key hub in San Francisco’s electronic music revival, which began with the launch of the Portola Festival in 2022.
“Arts and culture are helping to drive our city’s comeback,” Lurie stated, emphasizing the crucial role these events play in the city’s ongoing revitalization.
