Hey You Guys! The Ultimate Goonies Collectible Has Arrived
For fans who believe that “Goonies never say die,” a nearly forty-year wait is finally over. The Lego Group has officially announced the release of a highly anticipated building set dedicated to the beloved 1980s adventure movie, The Goonies. This fan-demanded set proves that the magic of the Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg classic is stronger than ever.
What’s Inside One-Eyed Willy’s Treasure?
At the heart of this release is a stunningly detailed, 2,912-piece diorama of the pirate ship, the ‘Inferno.’ But it’s more than just a ship; it’s a journey through the movie itself. Builders will discover brick-built recreations of the film’s most memorable scenes hidden within its structure, from the Fratellis’ hideout and the treacherous boulder traps to the infamous Bone Organ and One-Eyed Willy’s treasure room.
The set comes packed with 12 minifigures, allowing fans to reenact their favorite moments with Mikey, Mouth, Chunk, Andy, and Data. The menacing Fratelli family is also included, along with the lovable Sloth, for whom Lego designed brand-new elements for his signature pirate hat and bandana.
A Nostalgic Return for Data
To celebrate the launch, Lego enlisted none other than Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan, who famously played the gadget-loving Data. In a promotional mini-film, Quan guides viewers through the set’s many Easter eggs and shares a heartwarming memory from the original production.
“When the time came to film the reveal, they had us walk in backwards in a line, then get into the water with our backs to the ship the entire time,” Quan recalled. “There were seven cameras rolling, one on each of us – to capture our reaction as we saw the Inferno for the first time.”
From Fan Dream to Reality
This incredible set originated from the Lego Ideas division, a platform where fan-generated concepts can become official products through a voting system. The Goonies set was submitted by Greece-based 3D artist and fan designer Vaggelis Ntezes, known as Delusion Brick.
“In designing this set, I revisited my childhood memories – growing up in the ’80s, playing with LEGO Pirates sets and watching The Goonies,” Ntezes stated. “I wanted to build something that offered both playability and display value.”
How to Get Yours Before It’s Gone
Don’t miss your chance to own this piece of movie history. The Goonies set will be available through Lego’s early access program on November 1, with a wider release in stores on November 4. It will retail for $309.99.
To sweeten the deal, shoppers who purchase the set in its initial release window will receive an exclusive bonus gift: LEGO Ideas The Goonies: The Walsh’ Attic. This 179-piece set recreates the pivotal scene where the kids first discover the treasure map, ensuring fans don’t miss out on the complete adventure.
