In a recent interview, the actors revealed their on-screen romance as lovestruck teens Miller and Clara was fueled by genuine chemistry that led to numerous unscripted moments, including a surprising number of improvised kisses.
“There are a lot of kisses” that were improvised, Thames told PEOPLE, admitting that those spontaneous moments “didn’t always make it” into the final version of the film.
The Prom-posal Kiss That Disappeared
One moment, in particular, stood out to the costars. During a scene involving a prom-posal, both Thames and Grace felt their characters would naturally share a kiss. They leaned into the instinct, filming the smooch in nearly every take.
“And so we did — like, every take,” Thames recalled, noting there was “maybe one take where we didn’t do it.”
The real surprise came during a screening of the completed film. “That’s the best part,” Grace said with a laugh. “We’re watching the movie. And we did that and it didn’t make it!” The director, Josh Boone, had edited the kiss out entirely, a decision that left the young actors amused and questioning why they weren’t told on set.
An ‘Immediate’ On and Off-Screen Connection
The improvised moments speak to the powerful connection the two actors share, which has sparked widespread romance rumors. After being photographed holding hands and posting videos of them kissing on TikTok, fans have been buzzing about their relationship.
