A Parody Becomes a Dream Casting Call

When your show gets the Saturday Night Live treatment, you know you’ve made it. For Brittany Snow, star of the Netflix sapphic drama The Hunting Wives, last weekend’s parody was a moment of shock and overwhelming gratitude. The actress recently shared her enthusiastic reaction to the sketch, particularly gushing over Chloe Fineman’s spot-on portrayal of her character.

Snow on Fineman’s “Amazing” Impression

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Snow couldn’t hold back her admiration for Fineman’s performance. “I was just in shock. I mean, I’m just so grateful and just overwhelmed,” she stated. The comedic impersonation hit so close to home that it gave Snow a moment of self-reflection. “Chloe Fineman did an amazing job encapsulating me and getting my voice right. I was like, ‘Shit, I do sound like that.'”

The SNL sketch, which humorously dubbed the series a “straight but lesbian, horny Republican murder drama,” featured host and alum Amy Poehler as Malin Akerman’s character, Margo. However, it was another guest star who made the parody feel like a bizarre case of wish fulfillment for Snow.

The Aubrey Plaza Coincidence

The parody featured a surprise appearance by Aubrey Plaza as the “new new girl,” a casting choice that was uncannily aligned with the show’s own dream cast list. Snow revealed that having Plaza on The Hunting Wives has been a long-standing fantasy.

“We always had a pie-in-the-sky idea that maybe Aubrey Plaza would be a part of the show, so seeing her in the skit was very strange,” Snow admitted. “So, we’re hoping one day.” The SNL sketch may have just been a comedic take, but for the cast and creators, it served as a public audition for a dream guest star.

What’s Next for ‘The Hunting Wives’?

With the viral buzz from the SNL parody adding to its popularity, fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter. Netflix renewed the series, an adaptation of May Cobb’s novel, for a second season last month. Snow provided a promising update on its production timeline.

“We go back in a few weeks, actually, so we’re right around the corner,” she confirmed. As for her character Sophie’s trajectory, Snow hopes for some personal growth but isn’t holding her breath. “I just hope that Sophie makes any good decision. Just one, just one good decision,” she joked. “I’m hoping the best for her, but we’ll see. I doubt it, to be honest. I read [the script] and I’m like, ‘Why?’”
