A Shocking On-Stage Health Crisis
Actress Alex Kingston has publicly revealed for the first time that she was recently diagnosed with and treated for womb cancer. The Doctor Who and ER star, currently competing on Strictly Come Dancing, shared that her journey began with a terrifying medical emergency that unfolded live on stage.
While performing in a play last summer, Kingston’s body sent an undeniable signal. “That night on stage, I haemorrhaged,” she revealed. “That was really shocking.” Thankfully, the Tudor dress she was wearing helped contain the situation as she finished the show.
Ignoring The Warning Signs
For years, Kingston had been experiencing symptoms like bloating and achiness but had dismissed them as part of getting older. “I had assumed that the way I was feeling was old age, and I just sort of accepted it,” she explained. Even after noticing blood in her urine, she didn’t consider cancer, thinking it was a UTI or fibroids.
Following the on-stage incident, she was diagnosed and underwent a hysterectomy and radiation therapy. She is now urging others not to make the same mistake. “Womb cancer is really tricky because it is so sneaky,” Kingston advises. “It’s so important to seek advice and have a check-up.”
Dancing Through Recovery
Kingston’s intense health battle is the very reason she said “yes” to Strictly. Facing her own mortality made her realize that “life is too short.” Now, feeling like “Superwoman,” she is embracing the grueling training schedule with professional partner Johannes Radebe, using the platform to prove that “age is not a barrier.”
