Lopez Defends Bad Bunny, Calls New Film ‘Healing’ Amid Divorce
“I Don’t Understand the Controversy”
Jennifer Lopez appeared completely unaware of the public backlash against Bad Bunny’s selection as this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performer. During an interview on the Today show, a sincere Lopez responded to questions about the issue by asking, “Is there controversy? I swear, I don’t know.”
Despite being clued in on the conservative backlash, Lopez threw her full support behind her former stage companion, with whom she performed six years ago. “I’m super excited for people to see him,” she stated, predicting that critics “will be pleasantly surprised.”
Music That “Transcends Language”
Lopez praised Bad Bunny’s global impact, dismissing criticisms about his music being primarily in Spanish. “His music transcends language. It’s amazing what he’s done,” she affirmed. “He puts on a great show, he’s an amazing entertainer.” She recalled their previous performance as a “cultural moment” and expressed excitement for his headlining show.
‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ as Escapism
The conversation also shifted to Lopez’s passion project, Kiss of the Spider Woman. The film’s production coincided with her divorce from Ben Affleck, who is an executive producer on the movie.
Lopez described the film’s theme as “how movies and art save us in the hardest times,” which resonated deeply with her. “Doing this project… really got me through to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life,” she explained. She gave full credit to her ex-husband, adding, “If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have got made.”
