India has an estimated TV market of Rs 917 billion

The central government on Thursday banned the import of color television. Its aim is to increase domestic production and reduce imports of non-essential items from countries like China.

According to an estimate, India’s TV market is estimated at Rs 917 billion. The DGFT has also issued a statement in this regard.

The announcement states that the import policy of color TV has been changed. Its import is prohibited. Putting the import of any item in the restricted category means that the importer has to get a license from DGFT for its import.

China is a major exporter of TV sets to India. Chinese companies may be shocked by the order.
